What differentiates a spinning disk from an oscillating disk?
CONTINUOUS VS. REVERSING MOTION

Spinning Disks (rotational motion)
When a disk spins, any given point on its edge moves in a consistent tangential direction. This produces a steady cutting action, like a saw blade or grinding wheel, where each edge particle keeps moving forward into the tooth or soft tissue without interruption.
Oscillating Disks (back-and-forth motion)
In oscillation, the disk changes direction repeatedly. This means each stroke must decelerate, stop, and reverse — so the net cutting effect over time is reduced.
